IELTS Letter Writing: A Letter to a Friend About Exam Preparation

Essay 1

An English-speaking friend has written to you to ask you how your studies are going. Write a letter to the friend:

• tell your friend how you are preparing for the exam;

• tell him/her how you feel about it;

• tell him your expectations.

Hello Ryan,

    Thank you for checking in on me! I hope you're doing well too. Here's an update on my exam preparations.

    To tackle my studies effectively, I have created a detailed study schedule that allocates specific time slots for each subject. This helps me cover all necessary topics without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, I find that engaging in group study sessions with my classmates has been incredibly beneficial. Discussing various topics and exchanging ideas with others not only enhances my understanding but also provides an opportunity to clarify any doubts I might have.

    However, I won't deny that preparing for exams does come with its fair share of stress and anxiety. There are moments when I feel the pressure of expectations from myself and my loved ones. Nevertheless, I try to remind myself that feeling a bit nervous is natural and that it is essential to maintain a positive mindset. I strive to stay focused and not let negative thoughts hinder my progress.

    As for my expectations, I'm aiming to excel in my exams and give my best effort. My ultimate desire is to perform well and gain a comprehensive understanding of the subjects, as that will greatly benefit me in my future endeavors.

    Please do keep me updated about your life as well. Catch up with you soon.

Best wishes,

Emily

Essay 2

Your English-speaking friend has recently reached out to inquire about your IELTS exam preparation. Write a letter to the friend:

• tell your friend how you are preparing for the exam;

• tell him/her how you feel about it;

• tell him your expectations.

Hello Ryan,

    I hope you are doing well. I was thrilled to receive your letter, and I truly appreciate your inquiry about my IELTS exam preparation. Let me tell you all about how I am getting ready for the upcoming exam.

  Preparing for the exam has been challenging yet highly rewarding. I have been dedicating several hours each day to revise the key topics and practice my writing skills. To enhance my language proficiency, I have been reading various English texts, such as novels, articles, and newspapers. Additionally, I have been practicing writing essays regularly. I find it beneficial to choose diverse topics to improve my ability to tackle any subject effectively. Moreover, I take time to analyze sample essays and learn from the structures and ideas presented in them. This practice has boosted my confidence in expressing my thoughts coherently and logically.

    As the exam day approaches, I must admit feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement. On one hand, I am anxious about whether I have prepared enough and if I will perform at my best. On the other hand, I am eager to put my hard work to the test and prove my language proficiency. Nevertheless, I am trying to remain positive and believe in myself, as I know that self-confidence plays a vital role in achieving success.

    My expectations for the exam are to achieve a high band score that reflects my true language abilities. I aim to score well in all components. While I understand that it won't be easy, I am determined to stay focused during the exam to deliver my best performance.

     Please do keep me updated about your life as well. Catch up with you soon.

Best wishes,
