A Nightmare

Version 1 (Elementary level)

Jane was getting ready to sleep after a long and tiring day. She brushed her teeth, put on her favorite pajamas, and snuggled into her cozy bed. She closed her eyes, ready to drift off into dreamland.

But as Jane started to dream, she found herself in a spooky and dark place. Suddenly, she heard a mysterious sound and turned around. To her horror, she saw a pale, glowing ghost silently floating towards her.

Jane's heart started pounding. She started running as fast as she could, but the ghost kept getting closer. Its eerie moans filled the air, making Jane even more scared.

As she dashed through the dream, Jane tried to find a hiding spot. She looked behind trees and under bushes, but the ghost was relentless. It continued to chase her, its ghostly figure looming closer and closer.

Just when Jane felt like she couldn't escape, she stumbled and fell. She closed her eyes tightly, preparing for the worst. But when she opened her eyes, she realized she was back in her own room, safe and sound.

Relieved, Jane took deep breaths and realized that it had all just been a scary dream. She hugged her teddy bear tightly, feeling grateful that she was no longer being chased by the ghost.

Version 2 (Secondary level)

Jane was getting ready to sleep. It had been a long and tiring day, and she couldn't wait to curl up in her cozy bed and drift off into dreamland. She brushed her teeth, put on her favorite pajamas, and snuggled under her soft blanket.

As Jane closed her eyes, her mind began to wander into a world of dreams. But instead of the usual pleasant and happy dreams, she found herself in a dark and eerie forest. The trees were twisted and gnarled, their branches reaching out like long, bony fingers. Jane could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she cautiously walked through the creepy woods.

Suddenly, a cold wind blew, making the leaves rustle and sending a shiver down Jane's spine. She felt a sense of unease and a growing fear that something was watching her. She tried to call out, but her voice seemed to be swallowed by the darkness. Jane quickened her pace, desperately hoping to find a way out of this spooky nightmare.

As she ran, the ground beneath Jane's feet turned into a slippery mud, making it harder for her to escape. She stumbled and fell, her knees covered in sticky goo. The forest seemed to close in around her, trapping her in its clutches. Panic filled Jane's heart as she realized she was completely lost, surrounded by the shadows.

Just as she was about to give up hope, a tiny light appeared in the distance. It flickered and danced, guiding Jane towards it. She followed the glow, her fear slowly turning into hope. The light led her to a clearing, where she found a friendly and wise owl perched on a branch.

The owl spoke in a calm and soothing voice, assuring Jane that she was safe. It explained that nightmares were like puzzles that needed to be solved. By facing her fears and not giving up, Jane could find a way to overcome them. The owl encouraged her to believe in herself and be brave.

With newfound courage, Jane continued to search for an escape. As she persevered, the darkness slowly faded away, and the scary forest transformed into a lovely meadow full of pretty flowers. The nightmare had lost its power over Jane.

As she woke up from her nightmare, Jane felt a sense of relief. She realized that nightmares might be scary, but they were not real. She learned that she could face her fears and conquer them, even in her dreams.
